Replacement ones look atrocious for the 1st gen so id keep the original, 100%. Point of a 1st gen for me is just nostalgia, not actually using, so a off looking housing would ruin it for me
Curious to know your opinion! Imagine you have an iPhone 1st Generation with a badly worn housing (VERY badly scratched, has dents etc) but it works absolutely fine. You could replace the housing, but the new one won’t have the same S/N on it, and looks a little off. Replace it?

I’d take this route too, while mint condition is nice, it’ll be missing the matching serial number.

Probably keep original. Or, not saying this is the best way to go, but you could salvage a good genuine back plate off another device. So it would look original.

Damn, I do have a first generation iPhone. Somebody probably sanded it with a very hard sandpaper and it has very bad scratches. I couldn't find a cheap new housing, so I have to sand it down fully and repaint it.
