Also meticulous preparation. Must know main roads, byways, caves, wherever the judges want to go. That kind of dedication is inspiring.

I don't do appellate work now, but I loved moot court in law school for this reason. Even as a 1L when I was terrible.

I have heard gamblers describe the "rush" feeling they get. It sounds just like what I feel in oral argument.

On a $900 hand, I once split 7s three times and then doubled each of them and won. Oral argument is better.
