Open sourcing Installer 3: After more than a decade, I’m very excited to open source Installer 3. Installer was the de facto package manager for iPhoneOS 1 during it’s time. For further development, see /r/LegacyJailbreak

[Tip] You can use BackupAZ3 to backup your jailbreak data when switching to Unc0ver. Unc0ver will not remove the backup and you will be able to easily restore your Jailbreak data.

Fun fact, 's Installer can be adjusted slightly and it'll mostly (for tweaks and binaries) work rootless, without r/w 🤪

The reasoning we chose .zip over tar was my fault. I was being too nostalgic of Installer 4, a project I have been working on for almost a decade. I pushed the idea of still using zip when other team members were telling me tar would be far better suited. I wanted Installer 5 to

Binary. Because Installer has no dependencies updating it for a future jailbreak is a matter of minutes, not weeks. Not placing files all over the filesystem is a lot safer for everyone’s devices as well.

Another important feature of Installer; Installer is fully self contained. It does not place files all over the iOS filesystem, and does not have any dependencies. Everything, including actions such as chmod, chown etc are all run within Installer rather than executing a separate

Just to avoid confusion, Installer credits are NOT the only way to purchase packages once the store opens up. We’ll also have PayPal for a pay-per-package basis like Cydia. Credits are just an option for users which enables far lower fees, instant purchases and payment options
