We were discussing live streams in the video but behavior is same for all notifications.

In the past, some viewers were frustrated with how many notifications they received. Not everyone felt that way, so we added the bell. For any subs who are worried they're missing content, they can get all notifications by changing their settings here: http://goo.gl/XLDtz4

I shouldn’t have to click subscribe, then click the bell, and then check that it’s set to all notifications every time I find a new creator I enjoy. If I subscribe, I want to know when that creator uploads.... That’s why I subscribed. If I don’t like a creator anymore, I unsub.

A lot of us? Or you could just create a bookmarks folder for those channels... My point is, the setting of “none” shouldn’t be default. It should ask the user, when they click subscribe, what their preference is. The notification bell is a hidden feature to many YouTube watchers.

Yes, this would be my preferred option. It wouldn’t change YouTube dramatically but it would allow people to choose when subscribing. It would also educate more people about the bell feature, so they could go and activate it for older channels if they wanted.
