What's a cultural thing you 'missed' that you regret? E.g., I didnt play Mass Effect when it came out and I feel like it's not the same if I play it now.

the only difference is that you won't wait twenty hours for each elevator like you did pre-xbox 360 game installs

Oh man you get to experience it for the first time! I'm doing a replay right now and loving every derpy animation. There's a somewhat active fandom still on both Reddit and Tumblr if you want to participate in that.

Not true. I didn’t play Mass Effect 1-3 until last year and it was awesome. Couldn’t put it down.

The level design in the first game is a little rough, but I just replayed it a year ago and it still holds up pretty well.

Mass Effect's charm is all in the writing/world-building. The systems were janky (arguably "bad") when it came out. Still worth playing today and it catches your interest quickly.

I'm currently replaying the ME trilogy, and I have a recommendation: Start from the beginning (and get all story DLC even though they may seem overpriced). My first time, I started with ME2, and while that was good, having played through the history makes this time much better.

I played the ME games for the first time a few years ago and the experience was just as good (dare I say better?) And I can still participate in the fandom!!!
