Latinx giving Julián a pass on subject and surprises me more are not speaking up. I have five sisters who were bad ass girls in schools and we spoke up against racist teachers and bullies. We fought back and didn’t let gabas get away with racism. Chiquiados like him sat back.

Very interesting topic & one that can unite so many people. My Grandpa immigrated from Denmark & one of the first things my Dad, aunts & uncles learned was to forget speaking Danish. Because they were white, assimilation was super quick and easy. Not so for everyone, I know.

I know a lot of Chicanas from same generation who fought against racist teachers who wanted students to anglicize their names and forget about their Spanish.

What about speaking spanish at home. English at school. That's how my family was. We are all fluent in both.

Ditto! I may be almost the same age as he is, I grew up Dallas, TX. My parents did not allow me and my siblings to speak English at home. We spoke Spanish only. I did speak Spanish in school though I didn’t care what anyone said if they were bothered by me speaking Spanish.
