Chevron's largest U.S. refinery is in Pascagoula, MS, a disproportionately black & poor community. Based on Chevron's most recent data, its Benzene releases in Pascagoula were over 50% greater than EPA "actionable" levels and the 5th highest in the nation.c/o @EnviroIntegrity /2

"Actionable” levels refer to those which should result in action taken by the company to lower releases. Benzene is a known human carcinogen. It's also measured as a "surrogate pollutant," expected to represent the release of a host of hazardous (though unmonitored) pollutants./3

Chevron's 2nd largest U.S. refinery is in Richmond, CA, a majority people of color and disproportionately black and poor community. The refinery is currently in "high priority violation" of the Clean Air Act, and has been in noncompliance for 12 out of the last 12 quarters. /4pic.twitter.com/Fz3MXBUv5h

Chevron's Richmond refinery has also been in noncompliance w/ Clean Water Act requirements for 9 out of the last 12 quarters. This means the refinery is now and has been releasing pollutants into the community beyond those permissible under both Clean Air and Clean Water Acts. /5

For those asking "is Chevron is an ally of Black Americans?" I suggest looking beyond public statements directed at those communities and rather at Chevron's day-to-day corporate actions within them. /6

Here is the link for the report I cite above citing Chevron's Benzene releases at it's Pascagoula, Mississippi refinery - which are the 5th highest in the nation and are more than 50% above actionable levels. /8 https://environmentalintegrity.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Benzene-Report-2.6.20.pdf …pic.twitter.com/8pnuNIwR7y

Climate is a social justice issue.
@Chevron is hurting people in Nigeria, Ecuador and elsewhere with their air and water pollution. One example:https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-12460333 …Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I see the Richmond Chevron refinery every day from my home. If they are going to support Black and Brown lives then they need to stop lying to us, stop the flaring & stop poisoning us. WE have to call to regulators when fire is coming out of the stacks. They do not care about us
