When you cross states line with a rifle you're not allowed to carry, breaking a curfew to shoot someone who's unharmed in the head, there's just no way to look like the good guy.

This makes sense since you see him on his cellphone calling 911 after the Pedo was shot in the head. He knew his surroundings or the Battlefield and he probably couldn't get an answer since all Hell was breaking lose. So he took off towards the Police who were a distance off ect.
