Wish someone had been able to explain when i was a teen how Fight Club is actually basically about the Freikorps or the SA and Chuck Pahlaniuk is besties with the gay Nazi self help grifter Jack Donovan

I was going to update my mental model of Fight Club with this, but after investigating, it seems to be completely made up? Other than a fan photo and sending a book, they don't seem to even know each other... (also, why would it be relevant that Donovan is gay?)

Homoeroticism was a part of the culture of the SA and that overlaps with what is going on in Fight Club. Donovan cultivates a gay friendly fascist ethos is why it’s relevant. Obviously nothing is wrong with being gay but some forms of male bonding have fashy implications here
