anyway, i used to be a liberal and one time i was walking out of a meeting with a Senator's aide and there was this group chaining themselves to the doors and throwing fake blood at people + that looked cool, so i talked to ACT UP and now here i am

As a young man, that was one of my first encounters with direct action, and it was absolutely intoxicating to see a people not asking, but demanding from power in order to protect their community. Definitely made a big impression in my life!

I can't remember if I heard this in a documentary or if it was told to me by one of my mom's cousins who was gay but I remember hearing: "I was a political radical. But I got tired and most of my friends died." I remember how heart-breaking it was.
