Seriously, growing up as a minority in a country like the US with a very Christian identity is really hard, so solidarity to anyone having flashbacks to the anxiety of childhood exclusion.

I grew up non Christian when all of my extended family on both sides is devout... Even that was weird - all sorts of gatherings and traditions that we didn’t understand and could only participate in if we wanted to be told about some judgy shit.

I was always terrified of the easter bunny as a child, I wish I would have been excluded. My parents would do this thing every easter where they would wait till they thought I was asleep, then sneak around and leave jelly beans and cadbury eggs everywhere.

Except I was never able to fall asleep, so I could hear them walking around on the other side of my bedroom door, but I didn't know it was them. I was imagining some terrifying giant rabbit standing out there contemplating what to do with me.
