Like, when Agent Smith keeps calling Neo "Mr. Anderson," Neo's comeback only works if you read it as Smith deadnaming him.

I agree that it works that way, but at the time I perceived it more like when certain people kept calling Muhammad Ali “Cassius Clay” after he had converted to Islam and very publicly changed his name. (I’m really old, btw.)
