That quoted statement might be one of the dumbest statements I've ever seen. Journalists are not holy ordained monks living in mountain isolation. They're still citizens with everyone else. They have as much right and need for at least private political beliefs as anyone else.

As a working translator (another occupation that people expect to maintain “objectivity”), I figured out a long time ago that neutrality doesn’t exist. It’s delusional (or dishonest) to think otherwise. That he made it to a gig at the NYT still thinking this is telling.
