CONTEXT: The far-right started using "Zionists" as a dogwhistle for Jews in the 1970s. (Specifically, Willis Carto and his Liberty Lobby started it.)
Offhandedly saying "Zionists" is going to set some people with Nazi experience on edge, so *please* make your context clear.

It doesn't help that a lot of US leftists talk about AIPAC controlling US foreign policy, which is the *same* shit I hear from Nazis, instead of talking about how the US' imperial foreign policy dovetails with the Israeli right. And yes, the former is an antisemitic analysis.

And yes, that will be weaponized by the right against the left if we continue to ignore antisemitism in our ranks. It already has been, in the case of Ilhan Omar.

Nah, chief. Think about the context in which Ilhan Omar was attacked for criticizing money in politics (and that's exactly what it was). She got her life threatened, thrown under the bus by her own colleagues. Why? Because post-9/11 Islamophobia reared its ugly head.

Yeah, it was definitely an Islamophobic smear campaign against Omar. But also, leftists need to quit with the "Israel controls the US" narrative that blames a foreign power and lets US interests off the hook for our vicious foreign policy.

I agree. One, it's insanely essentialist to just drop the word "Israel" in that expression and for sure seems to let the US off. I think criticizing specifically the right wing Israeli gov't and the IDF is legit while tying them to the US and US allies' collective violence.

Where I don't agree with your statement is that she ever meant anything close to that. I understand arguing the need to change the language of criticizing violence against Palestinians, but why point out Omar of all people knowing how insane people get on her, specifically?

Because I'm talking about how "concern about antisemitism" has been weaponized by the right, like it was against Ilhan Omar. I'm not suggesting that she, specifically, is antisemitic.

I know you weren't. I know you do good stuff on here. I may have missed something in translation or something.
