It doesn't help that a lot of US leftists talk about AIPAC controlling US foreign policy, which is the *same* shit I hear from Nazis, instead of talking about how the US' imperial foreign policy dovetails with the Israeli right. And yes, the former is an antisemitic analysis.

And yes, that will be weaponized by the right against the left if we continue to ignore antisemitism in our ranks. It already has been, in the case of Ilhan Omar.

It is possible to think that yes, talking about Israeli lobbying interests controlling US foreign policy is antisemitic *and* that we should not let the right turn that into a vicious Islamophobic weapon. But that starts with leftists actually confronting left antisemitism.

oh, look, it's one of the fucking Chapo guys whining that he can't casually engage in casual antisemitism without getting called an antisemitehttps://twitter.com/beccalew/status/1205384645409304576 …

This is *exactly* what I'm talking about. When our Jewish comrades complain about left antisemitism, we need to listen to them and confront that hatred. Not only does it alienate good comrades, but it leaves us open to an attack from the right, like we just saw in Britain.

Oh, you can use it without setting people on edge, for sure. Just provide a little context to reassure people who don't know you that it's not a dogwhistle. E.g. Instead of just "Zionist" use "Zionist policies of the Likud party" or something.

I have never met a person who used "Zionist" as a term for Jews, and people discuss Zionism quite often. There is a difference between the types of anti-Semitism, and it's a disservice to equate Jewish leftists and historically persecuted with members of the IDF and their funders
-
Fundamentally, criticism of the relationship between the imperial powers of the US and Israel must acknowledge the issue with Zionism. It uses the historical persecution of the one group to justify the present persecution of other groups.

It also doesn’t help that some people who call themselves “leftists” use the term “Zionists” as a good excuse for bigotry. And I’ve seen too many cases where leftists showed hostility for Jews out of nowhere. This toxic behavior definitely needs to be crushed
