As leftists, we owe it to our communities not to let “boys be boys.”

Surely you understand that there are plenty of sexists and misogynists, including violent ones, among progressive, leftist, and anarchist men. I’ve been around them for many decades now. It manifests in everyday life and relationships, the workplace, activist circles, etc.
He sounds very incel-ish. Unfortunately (and perhaps unsurprisingly, as both are blame-others reactions to reality), the Venn diagram for incels and Alt-righters in that generation is largely a circle.
The Dayton shooter also killed his own sister. I'm thinking there's more going on here than toxic masculinity. In the next couple of days we will learn more and then we can make assessments about motivations.
