1/ The far-right media is trying to tie prominent leftists to the Dayton shooter. I’ve spoken with some of the people the far-right is implicating. None of us had any significant contact with him. I wish we had. We could have told him that toxic masculinity is a violent pit.

4/ We mourn for the people of El Paso and the people of Dayton. One thing we can do is watch the red flags in our own communities. Toxic masculinity is a massive driver of mass shootings. Feminism can help. We need to teach our young men better.

5/ If there are young men in your lives displaying violent rhetoric, don’t ignore it. As leftists, we owe it to our communities not to let “boys be boys.” Intervene. Practice community accountability.

IDK man, there is *definitely* some toxic sexist and racist shit in "the left." You're right about our ideals, but we are often *very bad* about implementing those ideals. OTOH, sexism and racism *are* the ideals of the right. So there's that.

That is not the experience I or many of my non-men comrades have had in left orgs. Men may espouse leftist and feminist ideals but many either uphold/defend rapists and violent misogynists in their circles or are the rapists and violent misogynists themselves.

This "we're the good ones" bullshit only serves to further alienate and silence survivors of misogynist abuse.
