"Female" doesn't necessarily refer to a human being, and it tends to be used online by dudes who are about to either (1) dehumanize women, or (2) engage in some weird biological essentialism, since it sounds more science-y. Kind of a context thing, lol.

Imo, there is nothing inherently offensive about the term "female" nor "male". Just bc a group of misogynistic folks try to demean another group by using a term in a derogatory way, isn't reason to change. XX is good. XY is good.
