I should note that a lot of journalists who cover the far-right-- including @lilsarg and @elizabcking-- noted this on Twitter, but none of that attention found its way into the early mainstream coverage, like the pieces in @washingtonpost or @BuzzFeed.

I like a combination of Griffin's and Paxton's definitions -- at its core it is palingenetic ultranationalist populism. But like Paxton, I believe it is more behavioral than political. Its core is raw power acquisition, might means right, with an appeal to cruelty.
