Many vocal homophobes are indeed self-hating gays, confirmed in scientific surveys, notorious public cases etc. Not all, of course, but no need to attack an important ally as homophobic.

What scientific surveys? To the extent that it might be true of *some* people, it’s a generalization that blames the queer community for our own oppression. Pointing that out to allies is necessary. People who repeat harmful myths with good intentions still need to be corrected.

He is not saying they are gay, but that they have thoughts about being attracted to men (or women as the case may be). I think everyone has had at least a fleeting thought about finding someone of the same sex sexually attractive at some point in their lives.
