They call themselves a “fraternity” to give ideological cover to their far-right beliefs and history of violence.
Instead, why not use the designation of a professional third-party, like the @splcenter, which calls them a “hate group”?

In some ways the Klan was less violent than the PBs. Some chapters openly renounced violence and wanted to just become the secret orchestrators of the US. it's not just the framing but the content, that's all I'm saying - they can be both a fraternal org and hate group.

I’d agree themst they can be both a fraternal org and a hate group. But in that case, why are you defending simply describing the Proud Boys as a “fraternity”?
