“Unlike Facebook, Telegram is a valid and appropriate place to organize an ethnic cleansing” is a *very* spicy take, Willhttps://twitter.com/willcarless/status/1125777869991550977 …

I’m saying there’s a fundamental difference between people sending closed, private communications to each other than to posting publicly and using a platform to advertise hate.

Telegram is a platform, and the groups are public and searchable. E.g. You can find Laura Loomer’s by typing “Loomer” into the search bar. But even if it wasn’t, why do you think privately organizing for genocide is better than publicly doing it?

On your first note, I don’t use Telegram and you have a fair point. Still, as I understand it, people have to proactively search these people/groups out, right?

It’s pretty much the same way you’d join a Facebook group. You can search for it, people can send you an invite link, or people can share a post from one group to another, so you might stumble across it in a totally separate group. It’s social media *and* encrypted messaging.

Would you consider that akin to, say, Facebook and Instagram, which are just wide open?

Will, Telegram is wide open. I’m not sure how you think people are finding Facebook groups, but it’s pretty much the same thing on Telegram, just in a different app.

As I stated earlier, I haven’t personally used Telegram. I understood it to be akin to Signal and Whatsapp which, while also destructive in their own ways, are fundamentally different to social media sites.

2/2 You should think very hard about the weird distinction you have between “public” and “private” organizing for ethnic cleansing, and if it’s your place as a man unaffected by far-right organizing to advocate for their right to do harm against marginalized people.
