Whenever somebody proposes that less population would benefit the environment, the immediate followup should be to ask them which population of people should be reduced. (I bet he doesn't think British people should be having less children)

The answer is easy: Everyone should be having fewer children. Doesn't matter who in particular. And, yes, education of women helps toward this.
