I get the reluctance to sign your name on any kind of list, even a non-public one.
But not everyone is ready for street action, and we need to build a broad coalition to beat fascism. Petitions can be a good way to start building that. 
The Proud Boys are trying to rally in Philadelphia on 11/17.

I can't speak for everyone, but I've got a *lot* of followers who are progressive liberals who might be more comfortable signing a petition than engaging in street actions. And when we're building coalitions, I think we should be mobilizing everyone we can.
