It's almost as if they're deliberately conflating of the role of "contributions to diversity" statements in a few hires, aimed specifically at diversity concerns, with university-wide policy. Surely these champions of rational argument wouldn't be drawn in by such a sham? ;)

Judging from all the misleading takes on the UC diversity hires, I'm assuming that poor reading comprehension is an axis for the "intellectual diversity" campus movement.

Also, 'ideological diversity' is a perversion of the concept and its mission. That conservative white men, whose views have been privileged since forever and whose ideas are infused throughout social science theory, could feel that their perspective is not represented is absurd

I am tired of people excusing senior researchers’ unethical viewpoints & practices as being “of their time”. All academics must stay abreast of current practices, including We are complicit when we permit them access to participants w/o calling them out.

As literally every other person who knows what they are talking about has noted, you can't develop polygenic scores in the absence of a particular developmental environment, and their application to individuals depends on that individual's developmental environment. 1/

A PGS developed in an environment that includes the effects of racism, or sexism, or the stresses associated with socioeconomic inequality, cannot be free from the developmental effects of those kinds of environmental factors. 2/

That’s not the sentence that’s wrong. It’s the next sentence that’s wrong. It’s wrong because polygenic scores do not cleanly tell you what is “innate” vs what is added by the environment.

Also, the previous sentence is wrong, because the Beta weights that are used to create the score might reflect discrimination and other social biases. See also: everything written about algorithmic bias.

This is an excellent book. Fun, enlightening, and consistently MINDBLOWING. Open to any page and you’re likely to discover something new about your whacky and wonderful species.
