Looking at lights with nearsighted eyes produces a bokeh unlike any camera lens I have ever seen Is there any camera lens which captures faithfully this experience

ai influencers be like Waluigis in superposition were just the beginning. This week alone 37 INSANE hyperstitial simulacra were born from our accelerating Molochian memepool! Here’s what YOU need to know to avoid 10↑↑10 years of punishment under Rococo Basilisk’s rule👇🧵

Similarly don't take real analysis it's an infohazard

i won’t learn functional programming because it’s so obviously an infohazard. you learn one fp language and all of a sudden you’ll only accept jobs writing erlang, and then you spend the rest of your life on welfare. not for me, i plan to be employable

I wrote about this in my book Power Hold’em strategy many years ago and the advice holds up today If you feel like the underdog at a tough table, INCREASE your bet sizes across the board and it will negate some of that edge they have over you Mainly preflop and when c-betting… Show more

“You meet rich people and you hang around with them, and one night they’ve had a few drinks and they say ‘I’ll buy it!’ Then they tell their friends, ‘You must have this person’s work, darling,’ and that’s all you need. That’s all it takes. Get it?” -Andy Warhol

The fun thing about this question, IMO, is that god made a beautiful solution which feels "right"... but which loses on average to a set of ugly as fk hacky regime switching solutions. A fun little fable about the role that elegance plays in nature...

Essentially, instead of 1 guy collecting lights, you have like 10 guys, who "collect" lights until they get to 10. Then, after a fixed period of time, you "regime switch" to having the "light collectors" put their 10 lights in the room for the "master collector" to pick up

Ok how about the same problem with 100 prisoners but you have 13 lightbulbs instead? Can you do it much faster?

One of my favorite math puzzles: There are 100 prisoners. There is a room with a lightbulb, which is off. Each day, a prisoner is randomly selected to enter the room, and can turn the lightbulb on or off, or do nothing. Prisoners only know if they're called to the room or not

human level ai is boring. please give vast datacenters drawing most of civilizations energy needs calculating inscrutable mysteries where not even the problem statement, much less the solutions, would make sense to mortal minds

Kind of incredible, our ability as a species to just... meme value into existence. Here's a back of envelope for Hermes which has similar billions-per-year numbers. NFTs have a long way to go... (not financial advice)

These are stunningly large numbers! The total market cap of Rolexes, in this estimate, is of the order of magnitude of the _entire market cap of the crypto industry_! For reference all outstanding BTC is only worth $540bil!

Like it remains a somewhat tight community, in # items as well as dollars. I wonder what's the mark-to-market size of the Hermes/LV/Chanel/Rolex/Ferrarietc "communities"? How many outstanding items and what's the total mark to market market cap?

The total mark-to-floor-price revenue size of the Milady community is like: 10k * 10k = $100mil Bored apes are like: 100k * 10k = $1bil? On the one hand big numbers, on the other hand like the total size of the Milady community is like a single Ken Griffin penthouse?

Essentially, the prisoners can only communicate with each other using the lightbulb. But prisoners can confer with each other and design a strategy before the game starts. Devise a strategy to make sure all the prisoners can escape, which guarantees nobody dies

Prisoners' goal is to figure out when all the prisoners have been called into the room. Any prisoner any day can announce he's confident that all 100 prisoners have been in the room at some point. If he's right, everyone goes free. If he's wrong, everyone dies

Not to suck up to the system too much... but I feel like, so far, my median paper comes out more coherent after going through the referee process, not less. Besides substantive feedback, referees implicitly and explicitly push the structure and exposition of the paper to improve
