There are two kinds of focus. 1) Concentrating on a problem for an afternoon. 2) Obsessing over something for years, and showing up every single day. We talk a lot about concentration, but if you study the greats, they're always obsessing over their craft. 24/7 focus.

My notes on 'Digital Minimalism' by Cal Newport 1. The average American picks up their phone 90+ times per day 2. We spend ~60 minutes per day on Facebook-owned products alone 3. Gen Z might be on the brink of the worst mental-health crisis in decades

Future of education thoughts: 1) Most people struggle to learn on their own, so online learning should be social. 2) Teachers are educators and entertainers. In an age of infinite choice, bored learners will leave. 3) The best teachers will teach millions of students per year.

  13. Always remember to keep things in perspective. The Universe isn't out to get you. People turn shit into sugar all the time People have risen from lower places than you. People with more disadvantages have overcome the odds and succeeded.

TERRIFYING: This is how quickly a can overrun you. Within three minutes, fire crews at Shoalhaven in NSW, go from setting up for property protection to fleeing for their lives due to a change of wind. Always have your bushfire survival plan ready.

  18. There's no need for grand gestures. Just show up every day and put the work in. Aim to be 1% better than you were yesterday. That's all you need to do.

This is exactly how we run a quarterly dinner for 9 guys. We’ve been doing it for 5 years, 21 dinners. Here are the somewhat tongue-in-cheek rules we’ve developed over the years to maintain decorum. All recaps are stored in the same Doc. Amazing memories documented.
