Not sure if Twitter intros are a real thing, but here goes:
@Pillownaut - meet our local weather man, Anthony. He’s cool and trusted.
@AnthonyFarnell - meet Heather. She’s equally cool and trustworthy.
Why: Heather posted earlier photos. From 200 _miles_ away.
-
-
-
I need to add something that’s been biting at my conscience for the last 20 minutes as I think I did a disservice to Heather..... Anthony, outside of weather-stuff, seriously, Heather is space/science and cool stuff. Please connect.
-
Thanks for the introduction

I just realized the area is called campfire.

-
The area isn’t called campfire. It’s called the Camp Fire because fires are named for the road or area they start on or near, and it started on Camp Creek Road. The main area burning is Paradise, CA where I have family located. It’s confusing a lot of people!
-
Thank's for the info Heather.
-
You’re welcome. I think they should have named it the Camp Creek Fire, but once it got going the name was the least of the worries! The speed that this spread was completely unprecedented. My heart is broken for the residents.

I tried to take a hike up at Tilden (near Berkeley) this afternoon. The smoke and wind were so bad that I had to turn back.
-
That's real. Hazy sky here in south Berkeley & everything smells like smoke. You can feel it in your throat. The way the wind has picked up is worrying, too, frankly.
-
Looking towards Mt Diablo, the sky was just brown. Really frightened for Butte Co.
-
I know this will sound terribly naive, but what are the arguments against targeting certain areas of the state in peak fire season, esp during drought conditions, with water dumps as a preventative measure?
-
I'm not an expert, but high costs and lack of enough water come to mind.
-
Ah, thanks. I don't think access to water would be the issue. And god knows we've got to start thinking about cost differently.
-
Saltwater would kills the forests.
-
no, not saltwater!

I can literally feel it on my teeth

People back east will be standing in the rain this afternoon to protest the encroaching dictatorship. We'll be standing in the smoke.

Jesus God. I remember the Oakland fire in '91. The smoke was so dense over SF, street lights came on.
-
Yes, some street lights are now on here in San francisco
-
Damn. Be safe, Dan. Air quality going to hell, I imagine.
