Personally, this seems to an instructive loss of stature for these men in the face of excellent research and intellectual consensus building.

Plus, much new relevant scholarship has been published recently by mainstream historians, other than the five who wrote the recent NYT letter critical of the 1619Project. As to who is “cutting edge” in this underdeveloped field? Maybe the marketplace of ideas will rule!
