Note that Iowa *had* a pure caucus, which is not very democratic. (No ballots, voters realign, no raw vote). Then they tried to address democracy concerns by adding more voter data, punting the issues back to everyone else -- 'Here's a popular vote too, you decide what matters.'

Have primaries on Saturdays in every state, IMHO.

Iowa kind of ended up in a worst of both worlds: instead of a simple primary or a simple caucus, where people just showed up and gave a tally (which is basically how the GOP does it), they kept all the complications and then, to make it extra transparent ADDED A BUNCH OF NEW ONES

Americans are used to people of color shouting warnings about democracy under siege - voter suppression, gerrymandering & hate & racism on the rise. But when a centrist, white male independent Senator tells us to fear authoritarianism & the “elected monarch”, will America listen?

Yes Iowa was a screwup deserving of mockery and criticism. But 200,000 or so Iowans did go to considerable trouble to vote and their votes, when counted, shouldn’t be dismissed. And 1,000s of volunteers worked hard for candidates or the party. So a h/t to Iowans despite the mess.

The most important thing about an election is that voters believe the process is legitimate. The US is not on track for that this year.

I don't really know prices in this world particularly well, but $70,000 dollars to develop an app of this importance seems like....not that much money?

How is it that they make the campaign season 300 years long but demand the vote be counted so quickly that it requires an app? Count the voters and add up the results on paper, you ding-dongs! The media can wait. Accuracy is more important than speed!

Mr. President, your sons and your friends were spreading lies about voter fraud in Iowa yesterday while Americans are voting. Isn’t that something a president should condemn?

Trump continues to publicly humiliate himself as dementia dissolves major areas of his brain. With the self control of a 3 year old & zero awareness of what he's supposed to be doing he clowns around during the National Anthem. It will keep getting worse.

Trump Defrauded Hundreds Of People Out Of Millions Of Dollars A Federal Court ordered to him to pay $25 Million to victims, whose lives he ruined. He’s never apologized and was never impeached or prosecuted for his criminal behavior.

And in many ways that was materially worse. Rather than not knowing who won, the media reported Romney won and gained momentum and won the nomination. Doesn't it seem better to wait until you know the results than jumping the gun? Get it right or get it first?

So what should Democrats do now that impeachment is over? I argue in today that they should step on the gas and keep investigating the Trump admin as aggressively as they did in the Ukraine scandal. On every front.

“The idea of a married gay man winning the Iowa caucuses? Absurd. As it turns out, it wasn’t absurd at all, the absurdity was the caucus process itself.”

I guess I shouldn't be s gleeful about this caucus mess, but after all the years when Iowa has gobbled up attention and dollars with an anti-democratic, low-turnout process that they celebrate as "democracy in action", this feels to me like Karma on steroids.
