the bishop of orlando is also the bishop of the moon, due to a canon law that says "any newly discovered territory would fall under the bishopric from whence the discovering expedition departed". his is therefore the largest catholic diocese, at over 14,000,000 square miles

I thought normal children were supposed to have the meltdown when you tell them it's time for bed, not when you tell them it's not bedtime yet...

"men are from mars, women are from venus" implies the existence of at least 6 other local genders of extreme variability, hundreds of thousands of other celestial genders, and possibly infinite extrasolar genders, many beyond what science has currently charted

1/ Some thoughts on the coffiespoonie/service animal/disabled passenger controversy that's currently roiling Twitter. Buckle up, because there's a lot of ground to cover and I get paid by the mile.

What if bookstores only stocked one edition of goddamned Lord of the Rings and used the 12 shelves they saved to promote new voices?

Little one still too ill for nursery, and has been generally clumsy today. Couple of head books, including a mildly bloody nose. Looking at him I said "you're in the wars". Grinning, he points at the wall and says "wuh!" A toddler in the walls is the next big horror movie.

My favourite example of this is the eternity ring, which was invented as a means to sell small diamonds, with the tag line "she married you for richer or poorer, let her know how it's going". 🙄

But he still only says the first phoneme of most words. Not even a whole syllable mostly (eg dah for duck and me for milk) Like, he clearly understands so much... It must be frustrating for him that he can't speak in return. Thankfully, baby sign does help a lot with this...

Language and speech acquisition are really interesting... Watching it happen, doubly so. Toddler knows the difference between 'hang laundry' and 'fold laundry', and is starting to work out which bin to put stuff in when we say recycling/paper/green waste...

Saw a post that said Dystopia is a white people word for 'What if all that shit happened TO US?' and I feel seen.

I've read this before, but for anyone who hasn't, this is a great article.

Tidying problems: does an old plastic bag from Galloway and Porter count as a sentimental item? (Maybe three people who follow me will get this...)

In a reversal, last night Toddler slept ten hours straight, then went back to sleep for a further two. Me: *checks his temperature* Beep beep 38.1 Yeah, I thought so...

Toddler had a bad night. I am shattered, but at 8:20 I am up and showed and dressed. Toddler is still asleep. We've turned off his white noise, turned on the radio, opened the curtains and I've used the hairdryer. I am not bitter. Honest.

If anyone has a right to be mad at Harry and Meghan it's the people of Sussex, who have been left leaderless without their Duke and who are now defenseless against incursions from Hampshire and Kent.

Your movie doesn’t have to be ABOUT adoption, it can be completely incidental. You can just cast Lupita Nyong’o and Manny Jacinto as the children of Antonio Banderas and Laura Dern just for the fucking fun of it and no one would drag your ass to jail.

I'm somewhat amused that most of the people on my timeline tweeting about Harry and Meghan are Americans.
