*Unbelievably excited* to announce that I have accepted an assistant professorship at the Waksman Institute at Rutgers University! It's literally my dream job: an all-model-organism institute where I can bring my dog to work.

Yesterday I made an email filter for the term "seminar" to divert my many (replicate!) announcement emails into a single place that I can just check occasionally. It's like I'm a new woman! I feel like I get only 2/3 as much email!

And shoutout to and my awesome colleagues in her lab of all sexes and career stages for creating such a wonderful environment to postdoc in!

Great thread, but especially this! Just seq-ing the heck out of every cell, as is the current fad, doesn't tell us all there is to know!

In case you’ve missed it, here’s a beautiful example of a closed mechanochemical feedback loop by Tsuyoshi Hirashima’s lab. Collective migration, waves, FRET sensors, ... and some mechanical tools from our lab!

Lest anyone take this wrong - there are LOTS of great folks, both women and men, who have been helpful, supportive, encouraging colleagues as I've been getting started. It's just an adjustment from my Themiscyra of a postdoc lab!

More reasons to join my lab: We inherited a very fancy Jura E6 espresso maker. So fancy that it took both me and to get working. But now we have on-demand espresso!

Coming from a majority female lab with a strong female mentor as a postdoc, I've gotten so used to being surrounded by confident, loud women. One month as an asst. prof. and the number of times I've been the "only woman" in any given situation is...a lot.

Spent an "invigorating" first hour of the day scrubbing some nice lab carts I inherited that alas spent the last couple months on the loading dock. Already tired. And muddy.

This week the scientists are all tweeting about the and the authors all debate whether to tag authors in tweets about their work. I mostly follow authors for their cats tho. I mean cooks an egg for his cat daily and has a special egg song!

I thought it could be helpful to have a thread on ANOVA in R. As a statistical consultant, this is the most frequent FAQ I get from clients - how to run a linear model on their data, conduct hypothesis tests, extract predicted means and perform contrasts.

My favs were the retro 1950’s post war ephys parts. The eggshell hues and forest green backlit traces...trés chic. • I’m so serious btw. The set up made me want to pour a glass of scotch, Bogart a pipe and talk out the side of my mouth with a furrowed brow about ephys.

We first validated in two well characterised connections in the fly olfactory system. One was weak but stereotyped and highly selective (ORN-PN), the other is strong but characterised by random convergence of multiple cell types onto downstream neurons (PN-KC). 5/11

We have developed a new fully genetically encoded tracing system, , and validated it in . This makes the fly the first animal with such systems for both retrograde and anterograde tracing (trans-Tango, TRACT). 3/11
