We cannot pick and chose when to apply a principle as fundamental as opposition to the death penalty. Neither should we abdicate our responsibility to bring to justice barbaric murderershttps://twitter.com/sarahwollaston/status/1021500941021995008 …

The death penalty is state sponsored barbarism. It does not deter & cannot be conveniently off-shored to evade responsibility @sajidjavid @theresa_may

International law must and should apply. I am very disturbed by our new Hone Secretary’s performance which seems to be a highly unethical and immoral line to take. No need to remind you that this country abolished the death penalty in 1965 and this has never been reversed.

And we don't extradite without agreement that the death penalty will not be imposed irrespective of crime or citizenship status.

It is the way we respond to such savagery that gives us the rights and moral compass we should cherish not throw away in some cheap salute to populism.

They’re no longer British citizens. They’re held in Syria and they committed some of the most heinous crimes imaginable. I don’t see why we need to campaign on their behalf

The British government will be providing evidence to try these two. If we are involved in the trial of anyone, UK citizen or not, it is government policy to ask that the death penalty be waived. This shouldn't sometimes apply and sometimes not.

How do we know that? They have given interviews to CNN and Sky about their activities which would be sufficient to put them before a court.

What next will “ will of the people “bring us-I am watching a once great country losing its moral compass, adrift with a crew of hopeless cowards in charge-as the man said”As politicians we know what we should do, but worry how to get re-elected once we’ve done so” Country first?

Politicians often underestimate how much 'tough love' is respected. People know when they are being pandered to, and they despise it.

You're right. And it's going to be used as a lever to get the UK to derogate from the ECHR. The kippers are already showing signs of anticipation, not realising that the 'Human' in Human rights also applies to them, and derogation is only necessary to remove our rights.

I think Conservatives will also run a referendum on it to say that they are the party of democracy and take the cloak of UKIP.

The government is entirely wrong to ignore it's principles; but then again this government is meant to be pro-business, and pro-democracy and it has spent the last two years ignoring those principles too.

This government has no moral responsibility or principles left. It is so blatant because it doesn't see Corbyn's Labour party as a threat. But we will not forget what the Tories are doing.

We have regressed as a society if this happens. We are heading toward the days of Rome where the will of the mob is everything. What next gladiator fights to the death at stadiums.
