Don’t deny we need urgent reform of sentencing BUT this will be nothing more than headline grabbing unless we also give our criminal justice system - notably the CPS, prison & probation service - the resources they need namely more money. Now.

What a fabulous load of bluster and evasion just now from the Australian High Commissioner on . Really quite funny to hear him trying to avoid the conclusion that one thing we don’t want with the EU is an ‘Australian style trade deal’.

Claire O'Neill, sacked by No 10, says "my advice to anybody to whom Boris is making promises - whether its voters, world leaders, ministers, employees or indeed family members - is 'Get it in writing, get a lawyer to look at it and make sure the money is in the bank'."

"He doesn't really get it" Claire O'Neill, sacked president of the Glasgow climate conference, says admitted to her he doesn't really get climate change... & there's been a "huge lack of leadership" over the conference

PS I have been in the Westminster Lobby for over thirty years (since before you wer born) and am a former Lobby Chairman. I have never heard of an "inner lobby". This takes blatant attempts to divide and rule to a new level. So please don't lie.

If you're such a fan of free trade why have you hauled us out of the biggest free trading bloc in the world? With whom you're now seeking an option with as little free trade as possible. It's almost as if everything you say.... is a lie.

This is the point that the government would rather pretend isn’t true. It doesn’t matter if you’re keeping people inside for an extra 1, 5, 10 or 20 years if they’re going to come out unreformed and just as, if not even more, dangerous.

My last word on this - I felt deeply uncomfortable being left to stand on one side of the room while colleagues' names were read out one-by-one and they joined the group who were deemed "acceptable" by No 10. Sinister and sad.

Am I missing something here? If, other things being equal, Amman had served his full sentence wouldn't he just have done the same thing next year? Whatever the answer is talking all tough on later release isn't it.

Dom blames “the shocking influence of lawyers on policy” for the current laws on the release of prisoners. Once more, slowly: Lawyers do not make laws. Dom’s boss and his mates make the laws. That has been their job for the last decade. The blame lies with them.
