We need trade deals to be assessed for their environmental impact, but we also need policies that prevent them leading to environmental harm in the first place!

Very much agree with that trade liberalisation should focus on goods and services which meet environmental standards. Government could fix this for the by introducing core environmental standards for all food products imported into the UK.

UK-Aus deal was signed tonight, confirming the UK is giving its biggest prize, zero tariff zero quota access, to Aus with no environmental conditions! Puts UK's transition to sustainable agriculture and supply chains at risk for 0.08% in GDP in 15 years!

Perhaps because the Australia-UK agreement isn't the unquestioned success of Global Britain some made it out to be? It will put at risk the UK's ability to farm sustainably by making our farmers compete with industrial production that does not meet UK environmental standards

Why is the government planning to reveal a major trade deal on the first day of recess, a day after by-elections, when the attention of MPs and media will be elsewhere? A thread 🧵👇

This is concerning: the UK government is negotiating a trade deal with Australia with 0 tariffs on beef produced in ways that harm the planet. We urgently need strong core standards to ensure all food sold in the UK is working towards low-emission & high nature models of farming.
