Around 2/3 of that farebox revenue already comes from employer-paid pass programs. If we levied a regional payroll-based employer tax we could provide free transit for all with way less hassle and more efficiency, and probably not much more cost to employers.

[corrects my earlier error] Obviously those fines don't create transit revenue. [You have to respect Durkan's eagerness to learn more about it...] From the archive, grossed only $4,300 in 2016 from fare citations, about 1/80 the cost just for the court process.

Look👇we're getting the crossing length of the I-90 on ramp at Rainier reduced from 33 to 14 feet! So much safer to get to the 7 bus stop!

a new crosswalk with reduced crossing length and reducing the crossing from 2 lanes to 1 traffic lane. This reduces the crossing from 33 feet to 14 feet. There will be pylons installed to narrow the space for cars.

In previous rounds of complaints about this they argued that the boat + rack were designed a while ago and bike design had changed. 🙄 Even if one wants to believe that is reasonable for discs, which have become more popular in the last 10 years, fenders? In Seattle?

As we struggle to get cameras here in Seattle, check out what's happening in NYC. Having a majority of people use transit allows a totally different conversation around holding people who have the privilege to drive accountable.

Great data driven article using close call analysis. ‘I started my PhD journey with a mission of answering the question “Are e-scooters safe?” Fast forward a year, and I am now convinced that the more appropriate question may be “Are our streets safe?” ‘

This is a good thing. But just looking at the image it's pretty clear, despite all the negative public & environmental health consequences of cars, whose mobility we prioritize.

Bremerton fast ferry bike rules: " The current rack design makes it impossible to safely secure bikes with fenders, disc brakes, or balloon tires." Fenders and disc brakes. Good thing no one in Seattle has either of those.

Middle of a legislative session in Olympia, among other major national news but apparently the most read article on the right now is how to season your cast iron.

File under "no kidding but we had to study it because of all the fear-mongering and misplaced hand-wringing that should actually be focused on automobile drivers". (But more seriously, great research by this team)

“We,” for others of us, means forgoing the vanity that comes with making a public spectacle of our “divine social righteousness” to give grace to those who are attempting to unlearn a lifetime of social conditioning. Powerful words from 🙏
