It's not bigger news because it's not true. He didn't ban opposition parties, he banned pro-Russian parties some of whose leaders fled to Moscow. One of them chose Putin as Godfather to his child.
Unlike Russia, Ukraine still has independent media.

But even if the parties have ties to Russia, the Opposition Platform of Life has 44 seats in parliament.
How can the media be independent if Zelensky signed a decree to combine all national TV channels into one platform for a unified information policy under martial law?

The country is at war so we banish opposition leaders? So we institutionalise the media? How can you trust the state so much that you don’t see the danger and possible abuse of power? How can you now say Ukraine is a democracy if that’s what Zelensky did on his own volition?
