      I was catfished for 12 years by an ex-police officer and uni lecturer pretending to be his own son. It is definitely not gender specific.

          I was waiting for your responses! Yes, both genders participate in shocking behaviour, manipulation and lying! But in this era of #believewomen and #metoo it would be easy to think that it's only men who are the perpetrators!

          Unfortunately statistics do show that women are more often targets of this but it’s far from ‘only men’ that do this. The stats show a ratio of about 85:15
