Some people who have never experienced narcissism bring up an excellent point, What is the difference between someone who is just a jerk of a human to being defined as a narcissist. Who would like to tackle this question?

A jerk, whether they care to change or not, is capable of self-examination and understanding of their behavior. Narcs are incapable of viewing themselves truthfully, and therefore never change, want to change, or even acknowledge their behaviors as destructive.
Unless of course they are being asked about their exposed behaviour and need to put on a learned response to appear humble in order to try and deflect from the reality
