Don’t know much about current benefits system but to claim unemployment benefit years ago, you had to be actively seeking work and available for work unless on holiday or sick. Are protesters on benefits available for work on protest days, are they seeking work on protest days?

They can still be available for work (as will no doubt have the latest iPhone and flatscreen TV at home) and can head off if that 1 hour of zero-hours contract employment suddenly appears - Sorry I was going all bigoted and right-wing then in the middle of my tweet

Disabled people may receive benefits and not ‘have to work’ at all! Imagine that? Being helped to survive as your body or mind is incapable of allowing such a thing on a regular contracted basis. Trying 2 get that benefit from what I’ve read is another thing entirely & full time

It is now a toxic environment - Anyone claiming a benefit is now perceiver as as a 'taker' even those who have paid into the system for years
