I watched a video on a news site about a man that had his pictures stolen and used to make multiple fake profiles. That upsets me that Facebook allows this. There are 10 fake profiles so far of this man. Please do not trust anyone online I'm telling you to please do not.

Multiple reports about the same obvious fake profiles are always ignored despite their T&C’s stating 1 per person and official info. Time for verification and regulation

You are right but how would one police that? People give fake emails. Would anyone be happy to give their social security number or passport number to Facebook to make sure fakes are reduced? I know I wouldn’t. There’s easy way of weeding out fraud. Awareness is the key.

I don’t agree for all. Some are easy to spot but it’s putting the responsibility on the targets not the abusers/fraudsters. The platforms must pay for a secure goverment based verification system. Not on the platform itself. The technology to do this can be created for anything.

But I agree, there should be focus on perpetrators - harsh and swift sentencing for example. But even that won’t deter the determined criminals, so the best thing we can do is raise awareness to change users’ behaviour online long term.

There will always be the huge professional fraudsters aiming to cheat the system but a high percentage of crimes/abuses should be eradicated if this was adopted leaving police resources for the most serious?
