What advice did This Morning give about online abuse to the caller having problems?

Well the adviser seemed shocked that the police said there was nothing they could do as she believed they had immediate access to the person behind the fake profile abusing her daughter

TV advice items can be misleading & public believe the wrong advice/info. The TV expert is wrong because police DON'T
have automatic or immediate access to identities of people using fake profiles. I've been on that programme twice saying so.1 reply 1 retweet 1 like -
It’s knowing the reality of your many years worth of experience that made me
when I heard what the lady was saying. What did it actually take for the identity to finally be discovered in your experience?2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -
TV advice give impression/reassure that if you report illegal fake profiles/online abuse to police, victims get an understanding trained officer who will liaise with social media & identify the abuser within few days/weeks & will be a prosecution. The REALITY is VERY different.

Replying to @Nicola_Real @AnnaRowe123 and
Victims need to know some forces policy is only investigate online abuse IF it's a 'threat to life'. If do open case, takes 3 - 8 MONTHS to get 1st RIPA results, then another 3 - 8 months to get necessary ISP data. If offender found using non-password protect net router...1/2

...unregistered pay as you go sim/dongles/free public wifi, or using a masking service/VPN/TOR that can't link offender to online abuse - Police/CPS won't prosecute. It's false to say all offenders can be found/identified & prosecuted by police/CPS. It needs to change and improve

Or get the profiles verified and regulation in place so that they do have this access easily. However cowards that hide behind fake profiles would never be that brave knowing they were exposed

Verification & Regulation won't stop the wide use of the legal masking services VPNs (Virtual Private Network, that make online activities anonymous. Passport ID verification is useless/easily faked. Gov & police still not catching up with fast TECH developments.

Yes it would need a much stronger verification than passports or driving licenses to have any positive dent in the criminal activity.

Which is why the public consultation on the
@UKParliament Regulation proposals is there. For people to contribute/submit in their ideas and experiences in this area of law/technology
