I was involved with a man I met online for almost a year. I discovered his name and identity were fake and that he was a lawyer. The law needs to change.

Which is why I said potentially. I do not have the full facts of this case but certainly I have seen cases where there was a deceit used to obtain consent that went beyond the "little white lie"

Yes little white lies are the passive lying I discussed. Height, weight, eye colour etc.. I also find those that make mention of financial situation, shallow. But intent for a ‘union’/marital status is active lying that has harmful consequence. It’s adult paedophilia in his case

In that I’m meaning the behaviour of paedophiles but used with adults.. the grooming for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

Where does ordinary romancing & "chatting up" end and "grooming" begin???

I try my hardest when people seem to make light of what happened to us.I’ve sat with too many police who dismiss this saying ‘but is doesn’t look like normal rape’ no it doesn’t but it doesn’t mean it’s not real.I hate using the word rape but I could not give genuine consent.

Exaggerations of height or weight make no difference to ‘intent’ for the relationship. Saying you’re single when you’re married means you have no intent for a ‘relationship’ it’s about the benefits. The other person may well be ok if you tell them. So give them that choice.

Married guys that meet a woman by chance on a night out, have a fling, is more likely a spontaneous meet. Setting up a fake ID and a dating profile means he had the intention to deceive knowing from the outset ‘the relationship’ was never going to happen. He never meant it to.

It was only ever about getting his needs met. He’s a narcissist and a sex addict. He needed a constant supply of women to fulfil his needs. He used the guise of a fake ID and a life to pursue us unchecked. It was rape cloaked in romance.

So "spontaneous" lying is OK but planned lying is not... We're back to where do you draw the line? How much planning pushes it over the edge?

What I said was a spontaneous meet that resulted in a one off fling may not be premeditated like a man intending to abuse, as mine was.
