You said "what punishment of gods are not gifts. Do you really believe that?" @andersoncooper, choking back tears, asks Stephen Colbert, as they discuss grief.
"Yes," replies the comedian. "It's a gift to exist and with existence comes suffering. There's no escaping that."pic.twitter.com/p5rUUhZKxq

Thank you for helping make sure those children and their families aren’t alone. My husband recently died of cancer. The nurses and volunteers at the infusion center and hospital helped so much while he going through treatment. I hope, eventually, I’m strong enough to volunteer.

I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you volunteer someday, & in the meantime, that you have strength & hope for each day as it comes. Grief is the unwanted guest, & all you can do is give yourself time. Peace be with you
& may the memories of your husband bring comfort. - Još 2 druga odgovora

What punishments of God are not gifts? Need to process that. Tolkien's “A divine 'punishment’ is also a divine 'gift’, if accepted, since its object is ultimate blessing & the supreme inventiveness of the Creator will make 'punishments’ produce a good not otherwise to be attained

At the risk of messing w/ their words too much, I heard “punishments of God” & received it as shorthand for “suffering”-as in God didn’t move to stop their tragedy. I don’t presume for a second that what my kids face-& others who suffer-is divine punishment. 1/2

Anna- my family stayed in a Ronald McDonald House in the ‘92 when my brother was in a coma from an accident. Even though he was 20 and we technically weren’t eligible to stay, they had room and offered space. I’ll never forget the kindness of the staff. I was 17. Thank you.
