Do you not see @ POTUS had his back to the wall? 256-167 in House, and 74 in the Senate (3 didn't vote) there was no way a veto would not have been over road.
@POTUS would have taken hit for a shut down and blamed for vetoing military spending. -
Seriously? If he had used his Veto power and then congress had 2/3 vote to over rule then yes. But in fact he rolled and they didn't have 2/3! We got betrayed and now you're in denial. I get it, but actions are real

65-32 in the upper chamber (2/3) is enough to override a veto.

That's the senate ..not congress wake up and be informed. Only congress can overturn a veto by 2/3

Trump was caught btwn rock & hard place. Had vetoed, the veto would have been overrode and he would have been blamed for voting against military funding and for shutting down government. Impossible to veto bipartisn bill.

President can persuade legislators to alter the content of the bill to be more acceptable to the President. Congress can override a veto by passing the act by a two-thirds vote in both the House and the Senate. (Usually an act is passed with a simple majority.)

It was a fight he wasn't going to win and would cause more damage than good. The bill is for 6 months. Funding for the military is for 2 yrs. What's done is done.

This is a kick in the ass to every supporter of POTUS. The left got a huge win today. They could prance out hookers, have investigations...and they could not derail the train. But today, signing this bill, I think the engine went off the rails.
