Or hey, maybe we can address our gun laws so someone who is experiencing PTSD and had to have the police called to his house after a melt down shouldn’t have access to a firearm. Wouldn’t that be something.

Yes if he had been involuntarily committed to a mental hospital then he would have trouble purchasing a gun. And if gun control worked the problem would be solved. But it doesn’t.
-
It's not the access to firearms, it's the number of firearms available to purchase. There is just too much of them and cheap.
-
No. It’s the access to them. If this guy had only 1 gun, he would have used it anyway.
-
The main point is that even if he had zero guns, he would be able to get one from somewhere.

I heard he was suffering from PTSD. The military is given lots of psychiatric drugs when they return from overseas and combat. The media never mentions the meds because of the advertising. They cause suicide and homicide..as side effects
-
Agree completely! The drug aspect of these violent events is never discussed, but we have a national epidemic of drug usage that is actually FUELING violent behavior.
-
Illegal drug usage you mean?
-
No.. prescribed medications in this case. Anti-depressants, anti-anxiety, bi-polar etc go to http://ssristories.org

and when they are discontinued the patient must be under medical supervision incase of symptoms. all these things i have mentioned are not done with diligence in the mental health industry especially the VA.

The change in the committal laws was a liberal progressive idea making it much harder to involuntarily commit someone. It continues to claim victims.
-
Now the jails are full of the mentally ill that need help. It is almost impossible to commit someone against their will to a hospital, but they will commit them against their will to jail. One protects their privacy and the other gives them a record for the rest of their life.

5150 holds are a double edged sword. Get sued for holding someone; get sued if you don't hold someone and they end up harming themselves. The entire mental health system needs attention.
-
Amen!! People do not understand how hard it is to get services.
