You cannot decide #ethics via surveys! Exactly what happened with @NeurIPSConf name change. Majority cannot decide for damage done to marginalized and vulnerable communities. You and @pmddomingos need to take a class in #ethics Listen to experts like @timnitGebruhttps://twitter.com/chrszegedy/status/1337477395960381441 …

Replying to @AnimaAnandkumar @NeurIPSConf
Anima, the NIPS name change was a terrible idea, and the community properly rejected it. What's sad is that in the end you still managed to get the acronym changed to the current clunky, confusion-promoting one.

I am much more excited about NeurIPS under the name change. For one, it seems way easier to google without getting a bunch of unwanted sexually-charged results. For another, those "joking" T-shirts would make the event incredibly uncomfortable for me. Think beyond yourself!

Try googling NIPS before saying that. And in all the years I've attended NIPS I've never seen such a T-shirt.

I'm not even interested in googling NIPS. It's incredibly off-putting as a woman in tech.
