I assumed that she had addiction and mental health issues not from her genius but rather from her childhood. I was happy that they made it clear that her genius wasn't due to the tranquilizers/hallucinations
That's partly true. They do show her mother also being troubled and being good at math. I hope the public doesn't conflate the two

I think both can be true at once: they intended to separate health & genius but fell short. They did this in world-building too: it was USA, Russia, and a 1D fantasy version of every other nation. I get sense of wonderment this conveyed for new countries but it felt tired
