Remember my undergrad? Over the years I keep thinking that combining those graphical models with DNNs would absolutely kill hierarchical concept learning!!

I believe that. I designed something like that in 2008 w/ some simulations, to combine implicit and explicit machine teaching (called it hierarchical concept learning through imitation) using sliding windows and using the simple neural nets as the nodes.
