I have twice gotten belligerent responses from speaking invitations I have declined.       As it turns out, the ones I turned down both involved Deepak Chopra on the program (lol). In both cases, the organizer was incensed that I dared turn him (always a him) down and wanted me to know what famous speakers they had on the program (I so don't care).

      The last one was in the run up to the pandemic, and I got pulled into it via my employer, for reasons I still don't fully understand. The organizer spammed us every few days about how COVID was just like the flu, and the conference would go on in person.

      When they finally saw it was a losing battle, they announced a reschedule date, which I promptly declined because I would certainly find a way to be busy that day. I had to actively ask them to remove me from the neverending cc chain from the organizers.

      The lead organizer replied that they didn't need me to speak anyway, because they were adding Trump's surgeon general (!) to the program. I actually snorted coffee out of my nose laughing.

      It's unbelievable how these conference organizers bully you when they are profiting from our work. I have decided that I am only getting toxicity back from these events. Doing a batch reject now
